EPIC’s Diver Medic, Jacob Siemer, a member of the United States Marine Corp, who recently concluded a nine month tour of duty in Iraq and is now on a ship heading back to the United States, wrote EPIC a thank you note, telling how his training at EPIC even pays off in the military. Here is the letter:
“I just wanted to drop a line to say thank you. Just a few hours ago the chief mate came up to my room and asked me if I could help him. One of the crewmembers had been involved in a rigging accident, we were six days from port and there were no qualified medics on board. The Captain called their DR and said that stitches were a must, so a long story short I cleaned the wound and then administered the stitches. I wanted to write, and say thank you for sending me to Diver Medic training. The only medics on the boat are not trained in stitches, or remote site medicine, all they really do is administer meds."
Thank you again,
Jacob Siemer
