Safety & Task Training

EPIC actively pursues the enhancement of the abilities of its employees through an on-going safety and task training program.

The various curriculums sponsored by EPIC are authored and taught by some of the foremost authorities in their field.

Task Training is a vital part of safety training. When trained to do a task correctly you minimize the risk of injury. In the area of Task Training, EPIC employees are selected for these specific courses by their desire to excel, their attitude, and their aptitude.

All EPIC employees are trained in the areas of safety.
Following is a brief description of task training courses offered:

  • Diver Medic/Emergency Medical Technician (DMT): A 72-hour course taught through the University of Texas, Galveston's Hyperbaric Unit. Graduates of this intense curriculum will be eligible for licensing with the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology. The course will cover Advanced Airway and IV Management, Diagnostic Procedures for Medical and Diving Emergency invasive and non-invasive techniques.
  • Non-Destructive Examination (NDE): A 96-hour course designed for certification and re-certification of EPIC employees by a Level III Instructor. This curriculum includes the correct nomenclatures, types and level of examinations, and techniques to facilitate various inspections and data recording, which are all specific to offshore Oil Platform Inspection.
  • Underwater Photography (PD): A 36-hour course in advanced underwater photography with emphasis on non-destructive examination of offshore oil platforms and similar facilities. This curriculum involves classroom, practical and in-water instruction, where students learn basic theory, development procedures, mechanics, formatting, etc.
  • Underwater Burning: A 40-hour course in Basic Underwater Burning/Cutting involving classroom, and in-water instruction. This curriculum includes equipment maintenance, and set-up, along with techniques for cutting various thickness and configurations of metal.
  • Welding Certification: A 40 to 120-hour course in underwater welding based on qualifications required by clients. Students with prior experience are trained in various methods of welding underwater.
  • Seamanship/Rigging: An 8-hour course designed to educate offshore personnel in the basics of vessel rope handling, crane usage, cargo placement and other activities common in offshore oilfield work.
  • Short Service Employment: A course for all new offshore employees to familiarize themselves with the minimum safety requirements for personnel engaged in offshore operations. New employees will receive specific classroom training, on the job training and be assigned to work with more experienced employees. These employees will also be issued a different colored hardhat (for approximately 90 days) to signify their inexperience.
  • Personnel Certification Training: EPIC personnel who perform special skills and/or critical operations must possess the necessary knowledge, skill, judgment and physical ability to perform the task or job in a safe manner, as well as, be qualified to do so. This training complies with the training requirements set forth in 29 CFR Part 1910. The respective training courses are listed below:

    Hearing Conservation
    Confined Space
    Bloodborne Pathogens

  • DIVE 5: This training implements a management participative program resulting in a service-focused organization, which is cost competitive, and proactive in its business approach to accept challenges in the ever changing business environment. The DIVE 5 Program marries safety and quality into one never-ending circle.
